5 Causes of Under-Eye Bags and How to Get Rid of Them

As we grow older, we often look in the mirror to find bags under our eyes and dark circles surrounding them. It is a common issue with most people. Although their presence does not mean any hidden health risks, they rip you off your confidence. They make you look tired even after a good night’s sleep. Fortunately, some temporary and permanent helpful methods are known to get rid of them that you should know about.

If you wonder how you can say goodbye to the bags under your eyes, keep reading-

Cause #1- Aging: As we age, our skin loses elasticity. Collagen, a connective tissue protein, and the muscles keep our skin firm, toned, and elastic. With age, tissues weaken, and collagen loss results in fine lines, wrinkles, and other visible signs of aging. These issues are more apparent under the eyes because the skin around our eyes is very thin and delicate.

Remedy- Following Healthy Regimes: Aging is a natural and unstoppable process. But you can slow down the visible signs by following healthy regimes. Create routines to nourish your skin and eat healthy and fresh to provide essential nutrients to your body. However, if the swelling is painful, itchy, red-colored, or persistent, you should check with your doctor.

Cause #2- Alcohol and Tobacco Use: Addictive substances like alcohol and tobacco can disrupt natural sleeping patterns. Smoke from tobacco breaks down collagen and reduces elasticity. Additionally, alcohol dehydrates the body, resulting in lost elasticity.

Remedy- Reduce Consumption: You should stay away from unhealthy habits. Quit smoking and reduce the consumption of alcohol. Increase water intake to make the skin under your eyes smooth.

Cause #3- Makeup: It is common to wear makeup today. However, cosmetic products can speed up your aging process and dehydrate the skin.

Remedy- Make and Follow Routines: If you need to wear makeup every day, make sure that you take it off properly before going to sleep. Use mild makeup removers and face washes. Use good-quality serums and moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated and provide it with the required nutrition.

Cause #4- Extreme Sun Exposure: Getting the required dose of Vitamin D is essential. However, too much sun exposure can mean damaging effects of UV rays, which can reduce collagen and damage the skin cells.

Remedy- Reduce Sun Exposure: Use sunscreen with a suitable SPF as directed and required. Try to reduce time in the direct sunlight. To prevent further damage, wear sunglasses and a hat.

Cause #5- Too Much Salt Intake: Food is one of the most critical factors determining your bodily functions. Too much salt intake can increase the levels of bodily fluids. This extra fluid can collect beneath the eyes and cause bags.

Remedy- Improved Diet: Junk food has a lot of salt because it enhances the flavor. Reducing salt intake will help get rid of the under-eye bags and promote healthy living.
