Botox, or botulinum toxin A, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure popular among people who want to improve their appearance but don’t want surgery. It is a neurotoxin that invades the nerve cells and weakens the target muscle, limiting muscle contraction. The relaxing muscle reduces unwanted wrinkles. You may see full results within a week, and the effect lasts about 3-6 months.
There are many myths related to Botox treatment. Here in this post, we’ll bust five of those myths.
#Myth 1 Botox is only for women
The efficacy of Botox to smoothen out laugh lines and frown lines has made it a popular choice among women in their late 30s, 40s, 50s, and even beyond. In addition, women in their 20s are also using the very mild form of the botulinum toxin. Surprisingly, women are not the only ones looking to get a younger-looking experience. The popularity of Botox is growing by leaps and bounds among the male population too. As per the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) report, the number of male patients getting injected with neurotoxins has grown by 337 percent in total since 2000. To maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace, more men want to look youthful and vibrant.
#Myth 2 Botox makes you look frozen
It is a myth that Botox will make your face look emotionless, stiff, or frozen. Botox injections are used to target specific facial muscles to reduce the effect of frowning or scowling. It trains your facial muscles and decreases their ability to create tension on your face. When administered by an experienced practitioner in the appropriate places, it helps maintain the natural balance of the facial muscles and does not hinder its ability to form natural expressions. For most users, it gives a fresh and youthful look.
#Myth 3 You get immediate results
It is wrong to believe that you will get instant results after taking the Botox injections. In general, you can see the results of Botox as early as 3 to 4 days after injection. However, a study suggests that you will start to see and feel the full effects of Botox 10 to 14 days after the procedure. The results may vary depending on factors such as frequency of injection and the area treated. The results generally last three months. It must also be noted that a heavier dosage could last over six months.
#Myth 4 Botox unsafe
When performed by an experienced practitioner, Botox injections are considered relatively safe. When we consider Botox as a neurotoxin, it may sound scary, but when administered in very small doses, it only temporarily paralyzes the intended muscles and does not typically travel to other parts of the body.
#Myth 5 Botox is addictive
People go for continued therapy because of favorable results in their appearance along with a boost in self-confidence. An individual undergoing this therapy may need to return to the clinic every 4-6 weeks for another treatment. It does not mean that they are getting addicted to Botox. It is not a permanent solution to aging skin, so the results may wear off after 6 to 12 weeks. Consistently getting Botox injections will help improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
